Mamelodi East Extension 18 Family Details Community Intervention, Home Repairs, and Ongoing Allegations of Police Misconduct - No Justice After 26 Days

Mamelodi East, Pretoria –  January 2026

The family in Mamelodi East Extension 18 has provided Mamelodi News with a detailed timeline of events following the initial stone-throwing attacks on their home (starting 31 December 2025), including a gunman firing at the house, involvement of a community group they refer to as "Dudulas," home repairs by the alleged perpetrators, and escalating claims of police bias, wrongful arrest, torture in custody, and cover-ups.

Key developments as shared by a family member:

1. Frustrated by lack of police help after the attacks (including a gunman incident) and fearing further harm, the family sought assistance from a group called Dudulas (possibly linked to local community action or similar to Operation Dudula-style initiatives).

2. On 5 January 2026 (morning), the family contacted them. The group arrived the same day, documented damages (writing everything down, taking photos, and requesting the case number and pictures for their WhatsApp group).

3.They instructed the family to "sit and leave it to them" since a case had been opened.

4. Dudulas members went to the alleged perpetrators' home, confronted them about the damage, and reported back that the perpetrators agreed to fix everything (citing no issue and even requesting a loan from their workplace).

5. The next day, the grandmother of the perpetrators visited the family's home, inspected the damage, acknowledged her grandchildren's role, and committed to repairs, even if the family's brother was partly at fault, while suggesting peace afterward.

6. The family agreed to repairs but rejected making peace.

7. After fixes were completed, Dudulas sent two members to verify everything (family member at home allowed inspection while mother was away; they then checked with the grandmother and documented costs/receipts).

8. Later that afternoon, police arrived with one of the alleged perpetrators, asking for the mother (not home). Two officers left contact details for her to call.

9. A few days later, two plainclothes officers in a private car (no warrant, no name tags visible beyond a card shown) arrived to arrest the mother for not signing a protection order.

10. That same evening, the wife of one perpetrator, her son, and two constables arrived with protection order forms for the family to sign.

11. The mother refused, citing the open case and lack of arrests for the damage. Officers insisted they were only there for the protection order, not the damage.

12. One officer entered the yard; the driver stayed in the car, reportedly shouting to leave because "the old lady doesn't want to sign, we have more important work" (paraphrased from family account in local language).

13. The mother offered to sign at the station after explanations; on the way, Dudulas called saying they were at the house to take over (referencing the original case number and mediation).

14. Before the brother's arrest (18 January 2026), the attackers allegedly contacted Dudulas, claiming the brother was threatening them, carrying guns, recruiting community members, and spreading witchcraft accusations to incite burning the family home and chasing them away.

15. The family alleges these accusations were planned over two years, with prior threats to harm the brother severely and warnings against helping him.

Regarding the brother's custody (18–21 January 2026):

1. Arrested Sunday 18 January; family claims he was framed and not involved in any crime.

2. Injuries (broken leg, possibly arm) sustained in custody; unable to appear in court Tuesday 20 January.

3. Released Wednesday 21 January after being dropped at the court backyard (no court appearance).

4. Family alleges Mamelodi Extension 4 police held him secretly for 4 days in a holding cell despite injuries, without informing family or court.

5. Claims he was taken to hospital secretly (police story: injured escaping in van), then ditched at court to cover up.

6. Other officers reportedly refused involvement; one helped him call family.

7. Mother searched for him since Monday; belongings/medicines collected later.

8. Family opened a case against the station for kidnapping, torture, false accusations, and wrongful arrest (initially told he was just needed for a statement).

9. Family believes he has witnesses from station, hospital, and court.

The family describes this as a "horrible and sad story," with perpetrators laughing/celebrating when seeing them, a prior R500 reward offered for the brother, and no arrests or progress on their original case (now reportedly dropped). They live in ongoing fear and trauma.

The family suggests the brother (as direct victim) speak for full details, citing his witnesses.

Mamelodi News has not independently verified these claims. Previous police communication (as reported) indicated investigations are ongoing and a response forthcoming once finalized.

The family urgently seeks:

- Independent investigation into police conduct (via IPID).

- Protection and justice for all incidents.

- Clarity on dropped case and custody treatment.
