The death of a 24-year-old Gauteng traffic warden in an alleged domestic violence attack has once again raised concerns about gender-based violence in communities around Tshwane.
Taymin Platt, who was reportedly attached to the Cable Theft Unit at the Tshwane Automotive Special Economic Zone (TASEZ), was allegedly stabbed to death at Riverside Heights in Eersterust on Saturday, 1 August 2026.
According to preliminary police information, Platt was sitting with friends at a flat when her 25-year-old boyfriend allegedly arrived.
An argument reportedly broke out between the two before Platt was fatally stabbed.
The suspect was subsequently arrested and has appeared in court.
He is expected to return to court on Tuesday, 11 August 2026, where he is expected to apply for bail.
QUESTIONS OVER PREVIOUS GBV CASE
The incident has also sparked questions about whether warning signs may have been missed.
The Democratic Alliance (DA) has alleged that a previous GBV-related case involving the suspect had been opened but was never finalised.
The allegation has raised concerns about whether the earlier matter could have provided an opportunity for intervention before the fatal incident.
However, the circumstances surrounding the previous case and why it was allegedly not finalised would need to be established through the relevant authorities and court processes.
The latest incident remains under investigation, and the suspect remains entitled to the presumption of innocence until proven guilty in court.
Platt's death has left colleagues, friends and members of the community mourning the loss of a young public servant whose life was allegedly cut short in a violent domestic incident.
