Tompa Family Seeks Justice for Slain Daughter in Mmametlhake. The Tompa family of Mmametlhake, Mpumalanga, is grieving the brutal murder of their daughter, Khutso Bonolo Sophy Tompa, 28, who was shot twice in the head and killed near her home on Sunday, 20 April 2025. According to reports, Khutso was returning home from watching a local soccer match with a friend when they were accosted by two assailants around 5 p.m.  The attackers ordered them to lie on the ground before fatally shooting Khutso in the head. They stole her iPhone and Capitec Bank card before fleeing. Her friend, though unharmed, remains deeply traumatized by the incident. This tragedy marks the second violent attack on the Tompa family in less than two months. Tembisa Hospital caught fire.

The Gauteng Department of Health (GDoH) confirms that a fire broke out at the Accident and Emergency Unit of Tembisa Provincial Tertiary Hospital (TPTH) on April 19, 2025.  Fortunately, patients were safely evacuated, and there have been no reports of injuries or casualties. The department praises the prompt response of hospital staff and emergency personnel, who ensured the safe evacuation of patients to secure areas within the hospital.  Firefighters from the City of Ekurhuleni and Gauteng Emergency Medical Services (EMS) are on site, containing the fire and assessing the extent of the damage.  The department assures the public that the fire was confined to the Accident and Emergency Unit and did not affect other wards.  The hospital is currently not receiving patients and will remain on divert until further notice.
