Mamelodi News | Marlboro, Johannesburg
Two men believed to be taxi owners were shot and killed in a brazen attack at a Sasol filling station in Marlboro, near Alexandra, on Friday.
According to preliminary information, a group of armed suspects allegedly opened fire on the victims while they were at the petrol station.
One of the victims reportedly tried to escape the hail of bullets by running into the convenience store in search of safety. However, the attackers allegedly chased him inside and fatally shot him before he could get away.
Police and emergency services responded to the scene, where investigators recovered more than 10 spent cartridges, indicating that multiple shots were fired during the deadly attack.
A case of murder has been opened, and police are investigating the circumstances surrounding the double killing.
Although the motive has not yet been established, investigators are expected to explore all possible leads, including whether the shooting may be linked to ongoing tensions within the taxi industry.
No arrests have been made, and police have appealed to anyone with information that could assist the investigation to come forward.
