Parents Demand Refunds After Unsuccessful Educational Trip at Ribane-Laka School.
Mamelodi, September 4, 2025 – Parents of learners at Ribane-Laka Maths, Science, and ICT School of Specialisation (SOS) in Mamelodi have lodged a formal complaint with Mamelodi News, expressing frustration over the school's refusal to refund R120.00 paid for an educational trip that failed to deliver due to limited space. The botched outing has left learners and parents disappointed, with the school administration providing no clear justification for denying refunds.
According to the complaint, the trip, intended as an educational experience, was compromised, leaving learners unable to fully participate. Despite multiple requests and formal letters sent to the school, parents report that the administration has repeatedly delayed or avoided addressing refund demands. “Our children are frustrated, and that money could be used for other educational needs,” one parent stated, echoing the sentiment of many.
The issue has sparked broader concerns about the school’s refund policies, with parents calling for greater transparency and accountability. “Transparency is key here,” the complaint reads. “Whether it’s a lot or a little, some people might really need that money for something else. Let’s focus on being open and fair about refunds.”
Parents have proposed two key recommendations to resolve the matter:
Issue full refunds to all affected learners.
Review and revise the school’s refund policies to ensure fairness and clarity in future incidents.
The community is urging Ribane-Laka’s administration to act swiftly to address these grievances and restore trust. A prompt resolution is critical to ensuring learners and their families are treated equitably. Mamelodi News will continue to monitor developments in this matter and the school has not responded to our email during the publishing of the article.
