On August 23, 2025, the FOCUS Mamelodi Community NPO hosted a powerful and impactful Anti-Abuse Campaign at Ikageng Community Hall, bringing together community members, organizations, and stakeholders to take a stand against abuse. Running from 8:00 AM to 5:00 PM, the event was a vibrant blend of education, engagement, and empowerment, aimed at fostering a safer and more supportive community for all.

The day kicked off with an inspiring march from Ikageng Community Hall to the University of Pretoria in Mamelodi. The march united attendees in a powerful display of solidarity, raising awareness about the pervasive issue of abuse and signaling the community’s commitment to creating a safer environment. Participants of all ages joined in, carrying messages of hope and resilience, setting the tone for a transformative day.

The second session transitioned into a formal program at Ikageng Community Hall, where attendees were enlightened by a series of impactful presentations. A highlight was the guest speaker, Constable Kutama from Mamelodi East Police Station (Ext 4), who delivered a compelling talk on the effects of abuse on individuals and communities. She emphasized the critical role of law enforcement in addressing abuse and provided practical insights into reporting and prevention mechanisms.

The session was enriched with interactive elements, including powerful drama performances, heartfelt poems, and uplifting songs that resonated deeply with the audience. Local talent, the Noise Boyz, brought energy and inspiration to the event, captivating attendees with their performances and reinforcing the campaign’s message through art and music.

The day concluded with a deeply moving third session focused on healing and support. Attendees participated in a prayer session, fostering a sense of unity and hope. Free counseling sessions were offered, providing a safe space for individuals to process their experiences and seek guidance from trained professionals. This session underscored the campaign’s commitment to not only raising awareness but also offering tangible support to those affected by abuse.

The Anti-Abuse Campaign was a resounding success, blending education, community engagement, and emotional support to address the critical issue of abuse.
