A dark clouds surround Mamelodi's heart as the serial killer is on the loose.

A dark clouds surround Mamelodi's heart as the serial killer is on the loose. By Mamelodi News, July 31, 2025. A dark cloud has yet hit Pretoria's loved township Mamelodi with a serial killer on the loose, operation in East, West, Nellmaphius, and Eersterust spreading fear of death to local community more especially to young girls. It is recorded that from the month of June to July, 2025 authorities discovered the bodies of four young women, aged 19 to 30 dead, and their bodies burned and abandoned like forgotten embers in Deneboom and Waltloo. The bodies resembled the same killing mark,a cruel mark of a predator who moves like a ghost. These women, full of life and promise, were stolen from their families, their dreams reduced to ashes by a heartless hand.  The Mamelodi community now lives in fear for they don't know who could be the next target. Doors are bolted, hearts race like galloping horses, and every shadow feels like a threat.  Women walk with eyes wide, scanning...

Drug, Alcohol Abuse a major concern in South Africas Townships.

By Mamelodi News, July 30, 2025. Across South Africa’s townships—Mamelodi, Soshanguve, Atteridgeville, and other Pretoria communities—the scourge of drug and alcohol abuse among youth is surging at an alarming rate. From the smoky haze of nyaope in Mamelodi’s streets to the littered bottles in shebeens, young people are turning to substances in numbers that shock communities and policymakers alike. A 2024 study in rural Mpumalanga found 45% of adolescents and young adults reported substance use in the past year, while Tshwane’s townships see nyaope—a heroin-based concoction—ravaging households. Some view this as a desperate escape from systemic poverty and lack of opportunities, exacerbated by the absence of community parks and vandalized public spaces. Others, however, see it as a failure of personal responsibility, fueling a divide in how South Africans address this crisis. Why are youth increasingly drawn to drugs and alcohol, and why do the numbers keep climbing? South Africa’s you...

Mamelodi’s “John Wick”: A Shadowy Avenger or a Ghost of Chaos?

By Mamelodi News, July 15, 2025 In the dusty streets of Mamelodi, Pretoria, 2021 was a year of blood and whispers. A phantom killer, dubbed “John Wick” after the relentless movie hitman, stalked the township’s shadows, striking fear into the heart of the notorious Boko Haram gang. Bullets flew, bodies fell, and a community gripped by extortion and violence dared to hope for a savior. But four years later, as the dust settles, the question lingers like smoke: Was “John Wick” James Madimetja Nkoana, the alleged robber gunned down by police? Was it Vusumuzi “Cat” Matlala, a name tied to Boko Haram’s brutal resurgence? Or was it no one at all—a myth born from desperation and chaos? The story begins with Mamelodi’s Boko Haram, which rose around 2018 to choke the township with fear. Foreign shop owners paid R300 or more in “protection” money, while robberies and murders left residents cowering. The 2019 arrest of leader Vusi “Khekhe” Mathibela sparked a vicious turf war with a splinter group...

Royal AM’s Auction Abyss: Why Hasn’t SARS Found a Buyer?

Five months after the dramatic collapse of Royal AM’s auction, the Premier Soccer League (PSL) club remains unsold, its future dangling in uncertainty. The South African Revenue Service (SARS) launched the forced sale in March 2025 to recover a R40 million tax debt owed by owner Shauwn “MaMkhize” Mkhize. Despite bids from prominent figures like Durban tycoon Chockalingam “Roy” Moodley, who offered R50 million, and football administrator-turned-politician David “Mazolman” Skosana, among others, SARS has yet to secure a buyer. As the saga drags on, questions swirl: is the process stalled by bureaucracy, or is something—or someone—making it impossible for Royal AM to find new ownership? The initial auction saw Global Investments 0107 (Pty) LTD, led by Mageshpren Moodley and Denise Govender, win with a R25 million bid, only for the deal to collapse when they failed to pay by the March 27, 2025, deadline. SARS curator Jaco Venter canceled the agreement, and the PSL Executive Committee...

The Unsolved Murders of Vusi Ma R5, Mashata, and DJ Sumbody Leave Pretoria community in Tears.

Mamelodi News, 12 July 2025 – The vibrant streets of Mamelodi, once alive with the beats of Bacardi and Amapiano, now carry a heavy silence, haunted by the unresolved murders of three of Tshwane’s brightest stars: Vusi Ma R5, Peter “Mashata” Mabuse, and DJ Sumbody. For their families, friends, and fans, the pain of their loss is deepened by the absence of justice—2 years and 7 months since Sumbody’s death, 2 years and 5 months since Vusi’s, and 1 year and 2 months since Mashata’s.  With no arrests made, the wounds of a grieving community remain raw, and Pretoria waits for answers that seem ever out of reach. Itumeleng Mosoeu, known to the world as Vusi Ma R5, was the heartbeat of Soshanguve’s nightlife. At 35, the “King of Bacardi” filled taverns with the infectious rhythms of Tse Nnyane and Thaba (Ke Chenchitse), his music a soundtrack to joy and resilience. On 30 January 2023, that rhythm stopped. Lured outside Legentsheng tavern in Soshanguve’s Extension 13 by a phone call, Vusi...

APC Company Saga Escalates: Anonymous Source Alleges Employee Misconduct Amid Ongoing Workplace Tensions

Mamelodi News, 11 July 2025 – A bombshell allegation from an anonymous source at APC Company, located at 316 Marks Street, Watloo, Pretoria, has intensified the ongoing controversy surrounding the company, following our 26 June 2025 report on employee complaints about poor working conditions. The source claims that some workers are failing to adapt to new management systems and are engaging in inappropriate behavior, including sexual activities during work hours. According to the anonymous tip, the transition from FPC to APC under new management has introduced new strategies and systems, which a small group of employees has resisted. “There are a few employees that are not compliant with the new system or the change that comes with the new management,” the source stated. They allege that these workers, described as “cowards” unwilling to seek employment elsewhere, are influencing others and undermining the company’s operations. Anonymous Submission: Abuse in Women's Soccer.

Dear Mamelodi News, I am writing to share a disturbing experience from my time playing soccer. I want to remain anonymous, so I've omitted specific details that could identify me. As a girl in soccer, I've faced numerous challenges. Coaches often prioritize winning over our well-being, ignoring our different backgrounds and struggles. I've been called names, benched without reason, and even faced inappropriate behavior from a coach. When I reported the coach's actions, no one believed me – not even my own mom. I was forced to leave the team and play with boys to regain my confidence. However, when I joined a new team with a new coach, the abuse continued. The coach would make examples out of me, saying I was talented but lazy. He would say he loved me like a father, but his actions were far from fatherly. He texted me on Facebook, repeating his "love" for me and offering to make me a better person. When I reported him, no one believed me. Instead, they told me...
