Ford Donates Ranger to Ribane-Laka School, Boosting Mechanical Engineering Training in Mamelodi.
Mamelodi, Pretoria - July 01, 2025 – Ford South Africa has strengthened its commitment to education and skills development by donating a Ford Ranger to Ribane-Laka Maths, Science, and ICT School of Specialisation in Mamelodi. This marks the second Ranger donated to the school, providing students with a hands-on opportunity to hone their mechanical engineering skills and prepare for careers in the automotive industry.
The Ribane-Laka School, revamped with a R148 million investment from the Gauteng government, is a beacon of innovation, focusing on automotive and electronics training to align with the demands of the Fourth Industrial Revolution. The donated Ford Ranger will serve as a practical tool for learners, enabling them to master engine maintenance and other critical automotive skills as part of the school’s specialized curriculum. This donation aligns with Ford’s ongoing efforts to bridge the gap between education and industry.
Through partnerships like the Tshwane Automotive Special Economic Zone (TASEZ), the initiative equips students with the expertise needed to drive job creation and economic growth in South Africa. Ford’s broader commitment to skills development includes a 2020 program that provided 240 engines, valued at R7.8 million, to technical schools nationwide.“We are proud to support Ribane-Laka’s mission to empower young minds with practical, industry-relevant skills,” said a Ford South Africa representative. “This Ranger will give students a real-world platform to develop their mechanical engineering expertise and build brighter futures.”The donation underscores the power of public-private partnerships in fostering education that meets the needs of a rapidly evolving economy.
As Ribane-Laka students work under the hood of the Ford Ranger, they are not just learning mechanics—they are gearing up to become the next generation of South Africa’s automotive innovators.
