Public is divided over the death of a taxi boss and chairman.

Public is divided over the death of a taxi boss and chairman of Ivory Park Taxi Association.

It is alleged that the chairman, Buti Johannes Mkonza died on Sunday, 03 November 2024 at Mediclinic Midstream Hospital.

It is reported that Mkonza died from a short illness at the age of 55.

Mkonza was feared by many, including taxi bosses, and other associations. Some members says they were bullied by him and the associations he lead.

Earlier, about two weeks ago people were complaining about being forced to ride in taxis after a statement released by the three of Limpopo taxi associations.

The organisation South African National Taxi Council (SANTACO) which Mkonza is a former Chairman in Gauteng, released a statement saying no private car has a right to give rides for people including family members.

Mkonza's memorial service will be held today Thursday, 07 November 2024, 12:00 at Gallagher Estate.
