After months of frustration, there is finally hope for Jabulile, a young woman from Zithobeni, whose dream of furthering her studies was delayed after she was allegedly issued with an identity document containing a photograph of an unknown man instead of her own.

According to information received by Mamelodi News, Jabulile applied for her first South African identity document at the Bronkhorstspruit Home Affairs office in 2025 while she was in Matric.

However, when she returned to collect her ID, she was shocked to discover that it carried a male's photograph, rendering the document unusable.

Despite repeatedly seeking assistance from the Department of Home Affairs over the past year, the problem allegedly remained unresolved.

The delay has reportedly had serious consequences. After completing Matric, Jabulile had hoped to pursue higher education this year, but without a valid identity document, her plans were placed on hold.

Her case eventually came to the attention of local ANC members. On Wednesday, 29 July 2026, members of the ANC Women's League intervened by accompanying her to the Bronkhorstspruit Home Affairs office to demand assistance.

According to those involved, the intervention resulted in officials processing the matter, and Jabulile has now reportedly been assured that she will receive her corrected identity document within two weeks.

The case highlights the devastating impact administrative errors can have on young people's futures. For many South Africans, an identity document is more than just a card, it is essential for applying to universities, securing employment, opening bank accounts and accessing government services.

For Jabulile, what should have been an exciting transition from school to university instead became a year-long struggle for a basic document.

Her family and supporters have expressed gratitude to the ANC Women's League (Izimbokodo) for stepping in and helping to resolve the matter after months of frustration.
