City of Tshwane Removed An Illegal Transformer Controlled by Mamelodi Local Gang!
In a decisive by-law enforcement operation, the City of Tshwane, led by Mayor Dr Nasiphi Moya, successfully removed three illegal transformers in the Phomolong area of Mamelodi. The operation also saw the disconnection and removal of hundreds of unauthorised electricity cable lines.
The transformers were reportedly controlled by a local gang known as Boko Haram, which has been linked to various criminal activities in Mamelodi, including extortion. Residents in the affected area were allegedly forced to pay fees directly to the gang in order to access electricity through these illegal connections, bypassing the official municipal supply.
This action forms part of the City's ongoing efforts to combat electricity theft, illegal connections, and infrastructure tampering, issues that contribute significantly to power outages, revenue losses, and safety risks for communities.
Mayor Dr Nasiphi Moya and her team were actively involved on the ground during the operation, demonstrating a hands-on approach to restoring order and ensuring fair access to essential services.
Illegal electricity connections not only deprive the City of much-needed revenue for infrastructure maintenance and service delivery but also pose serious dangers, including fire hazards, electrocution risks, and overloads that can lead to widespread blackouts.
The City of Tshwane continues to urge residents to report any suspicious activities related to electricity theft or illegal connections. Such operations highlight the importance of community cooperation in protecting public infrastructure and promoting lawful service access for all.
This removal is a step forward in making electricity supply safer, more reliable, and equitable in Mamelodi and across Tshwane.
However some community critics insists that the transformers will be returned via back door and be installed.
