Tiger Brands Recalls Benny Beef and Chicken Stock Cubes Over Labelling Error.

Johannesburg, 22 August 2025 – Tiger Brands, South Africa’s largest food producer, has issued a precautionary voluntary recall of its Benny Beef and Chicken Flavoured Stock Cubes due to inaccurate nutritional labelling on the packaging. The recall, initiated in consultation with the National Consumer Commission (NCC), affects 12, 24, and 48 cube pack sizes with a best-before date of 31 July 2027 or earlier, which have been on sale since 2023.

The company identified that the sodium content in the affected stock cubes may be higher than what is stated on the packaging, potentially impacting consumers’ ability to make informed dietary choices. Despite no consumer complaints being reported, Tiger Brands is taking proactive measures to ensure product safety and compliance with quality standards. The stock cubes are manufactured by a third-party supplier for Tiger Brands’ Culinary Division.

Consumers are urged to return the affected Benny Beef and Chicken Flavoured Stock Cubes to their point of purchase, including supermarkets, wholesalers, or retail outlets, for a full refund. No proof of purchase is required. Alternatively, consumers can contact the Tiger Brands consumer careline for further assistance or opt for a coupon. The company is working closely with retail and wholesale partners to remove the impacted products from store shelves.

“This precautionary voluntary recall does not include any other products marketed and sold under the Benny brand,” Tiger Brands stated, emphasizing that the issue is isolated to the specified stock cube batches. The NCC has supported the recall, highlighting that the inaccurate labelling could affect consumers with specific dietary requirements.

This recall follows Tiger Brands’ commitment to maintaining high quality standards, particularly in light of its history with product safety issues, such as the 2017 listeriosis outbreak linked to the company, which resulted in significant legal and public scrutiny.

Consumers are encouraged to check their stock cubes and act promptly to return any affected products. For more information, contact Tiger Brands’ consumer careline or visit their official website.
