Shocking revelations have emerged in the case of 5-year-old Ditebogo Phalane Jr.'s tragic murder.

During a bail hearing for one of the accused, investigating officer Sergeant Sevhasa Mashudu testified that the suspects sold the stolen bakkie, valued at R600,000, for a mere R30,000.

The incident occurred on May 10, 2024, in Soshanguve, where Ditebogo Jr. was fatally shot during a hijacking. His father, Ditebogo Silas Phalane, was targeted by the suspects as he arrived home in his white Toyota bakkie. The child, who had run outside to welcome his father, was caught in the crossfire and tragically lost his life.¹

The court appearance is part of the ongoing legal proceedings against Elias Maeko and his co-accused, who face charges of murder and robbery with aggravating circumstances. This development has brought renewed attention to the case, which has gripped the nation due to its senselessness and brutality.

Following the incident, the police launched a manhunt for the suspects, and a case of murder and hijacking was opened for investigation. The authorities have been working tirelessly to bring the perpetrators to justice, and this latest development is a significant step in that process.
