Twelve Years imprisonment for a teenager.

Teenage Boy Sentenced to 12 Years for Multiple Counts of Rape in Niewoudtville.

The Calvinia Regional Court has handed down a significant prison sentence to a 17-year-old boy for multiple counts of rape in Niewoudtville. The teenager was found guilty of raping three young boys, aged four, six, and eight, on multiple occasions since 2021.

According to court proceedings, the accused, who was 14 years old at the time of the first incident, would approach the boys while they were playing soccer alone.

On Friday, March 28, 2025, the young offender received a sentence of 12 years' imprisonment for each of the five counts of rape, with the sentences to run concurrently.

Northern Cape Provincial Commissioner, Lieutenant General Koliswa Otola, commended Detective Warrant Officer David Matthys and State Prosecutor Darryl Bromkamp for their meticulous investigation and teamwork, which led to the sentencing of the young offender.

Lieutenant General Otola reiterated that heinous crimes involving child victims and offenders remain a concern for the SAPS.

The police service will strengthen collaboration with other law enforcement agencies and government departments to raise awareness in communities, accelerate action, and mobilize stakeholders to prevent such crimes.
