Schools security guards, in Eersterust, Pretoria, Claim Unpaid Salaries for Over a Year.
"When we ask about our payments, they say the 15th, but when the 15th comes, they say month-end, and when month-end comes, it's another story," the worker said.
Mamelodi News reached out to Urban Watch Security for comment, but the company's HR representative declined to comment over the phone.
According to the school's principal, the security company is paid by the MEC for Education's office, and sometimes, a month can pass without the company receiving payments.
Typically, schools within the City of Tshwane Metropolitan Municipality have their School Governing Body (SGB) responsible for paying security guards.
The South African Schools Act (SASA) Section 38 stipulates that a public school's governing body must prepare an annual budget, outlining estimated income and expenditure.
MECs office had not responded during the publishing of this article.
