The Former Dr JS Moroka Municipality Manager Nelson Thammy Kubheka was sentenced by the Mpumalanga Specialised Commercial Crimes Court for violating the Municipal Finance Management Act (MFMA).
The court gave Kubheka an option of paying a fine of R50,000 or be given two year prison sentence, along with an additional two years of imprisonment, wholly suspended for five years, provided he is not convicted of similar offences during that period.
Kubheka faces 36 counts of charges which includes fraud, theft, and contravention of the MFMA act in the year 2019 when he unlawfully appointed six service providers, which resulted in R4.8 million loss for the municipality.
