The National Prosecuting Authority (NPA) has decided to charge the eleven SAPS members for the so-called "Alcohol Heist".
It is alleged that in the year 2020 during the banne of alcohol, the eleven accused saps members confiscated an alcohol worth R600,000, hard cash amounting to R700,000 and a hard drive in attempt to destroy the CCTV footage evidence.
Fortunately the complainant and his father who were both handcuffed during the incident, had a back up harddrive which shown officers taking alcohol from the business as they claimed that the complainant was selling the alcohol during the banne.
Eleven police officers, including two commissioned officers have appeared in the Vereeniging Regional Court for various charges relating to COVID-19 pandemic.
Charges include theft, extortion, and corruption.
