Stained Cash found in Employee's position.

Employees arrested for possession of stained cash linked to ATM bombings.

Four suspects, including employees of a company contracted to service bombed ATMs, have been arrested after being found with stained cash.

The arrests took place at various locations on Thursday, 13 February 2025.

Police launched an investigation after a major bank reported suspicious deposits of stained money into ATMs.

The probe revealed that some of the suspects worked for a company responsible for cleaning and restoring ATMs targeted in bombings.

A multi-agency task force comprising SAPS crime intelligence, Gauteng highway patrol unit, provincial investigation unit, JMPD K9, bank investigators, and Vusela Covert raided the company premises.

There, officers arrested one suspect and discovered washed banknotes. A subsequent search of his residence led to the recovery of more stained cash.

Further investigations led authorities to Alexandra and Tembisa, where three additional suspects, including the alleged ringleader, were arrested. Police seized over R160,000 in stained cash, along with chemicals used to clean the notes.

The suspects are set to appear before the Tembisa magistrate's court on Monday, 17 February 2025.
